THE SERMON OF THE POPE JOHN PAUL II. ON THE OCCASION OF CANONIZATION OF ZDISLAVA in Olomouc on May 21, 1995.
Our nation since its renaissance generated a great amount of exertion to learn of its past. In the minds of our people of all ages and education, there is embedded a certain, although in many cases a very unilateral image of our history.
History is full of events that keep on alternating periods of relative peace with those of tension, conflicts, even fighting and wars. Nevertheless, under those situations man is called upon to be faithful to truth and conscience, justice, and love. This appeal, applicable to all, may be replied to by life – sometimes one has to sacrifice life.
